The car itself and the staff at the location were great. However, the booking process and the “What is your budget?” feature were a joke, which is why I’m giving 3 out of 5 stars. Conditions of contract state they would return the bond within 7-30 days. Took raising a complaint with consumer affairs the encouragement to return after 31 days. Consumer Affairs also state vehicles are to be on a fit state. We started with one 4x4 van out of Darwin, briefing was rushed and we were missing utensils. 40 min into highway driving and the transmission overheated. The people were very nice (even provided spare covers and towels from previous renters for free) and getting the car was easy on the day. I had the Mystery Machine which unfortunately broke down around 100km from Melbourne. Although dealing with the roadside assistance was very long with a lot of back and forth, after 5 hours they brought a replacement car, Johnny Feelgood, which was definitely an upgrade in every aspect. We chose this car rental company, because we are all younger than 19 and it is pretty hard to rent a car without someone that is older. On the website we booked a pretty modern and well mantained car, but received an almost 20 year old car with over 420.000 km, basicly flat tires that drained our fuel, an engine that was always hot, because there was no coolant. They just cancelled my booking 10 days before the Christmas trip. Apparently they tried to give me an 'equal or better' vehicle but none were available (I don't believe they even tried). No compensation. I'm screwed. I now need to find a last minute booking to access the 4x4 accessible camp spots I booked months ago. I live in Canada so it's not like I can cancel my trip.
