Before my father’s transfer to hospital, a staff member advised that he had not taken his meds for four days due to difficulty swallowing. While we acknowledge his right to refuse and that Estia cannot force compliance, there was a clear duty of care to escalate this issue. The missed meds should have been reported to his treating doctor and communicated to our family, as we held power of attorney and could have helped determine an appropriate plan.
