Deer Duck Bistro is a bit of a jaunt from the CBD, but well worth the trip. Don’t be surprised by the seemingly abandoned block with a Thai restaurant at the end, look for the painting of the woman in an elegant dress from yesteryear, which is the main entrance. Check in is at the bar, and we were escorted through the maze to a smaller dining room past the kitchen. What a spellbinding experience! I was transported to another world and revelled in every moment. The short course (7 courses) was one of the best executed meals I've had. PERIOD! They are deserving of all the praise and more. My wife and I combined the celebration of our anniversary and my birthday. I will be remembering the scallops for a long time to come. I know it's taboo, but we had to lick the plates clean. The wine recommendation from Emmy was devine. Give yourself a night to remember. We'll be back.

I first visited Deer Duck in 2013 when I moved to Brisbane from the UK. I’m used to fine dining in London, so was intrigued by reviews of this hidden gem in Brisbane. Did the long course degustation with wine pairing—came to around $700 for two. Overall, the food had some highlights but definitely didn’t live up to the price point, and the wine pairings were underwhelming. Amuse bouche was nice but came out cold when it should’ve been hot.
